ODD COUPLE, THE: THE NEW CAR (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Oscar Madison and Felix Unger, two divorced men who share an apartment in New York City.
Dick Clark randomly selects Oscar’s number to call during his radio show for a trivia quiz. The category is opera, and Felix easily feeds Oscar the correct answers. Thanks to Felix, Oscar wins a new car. Felix is bitter about doing all the work and not reaping the reward. At Myrna and Murray’s suggestion, Oscar agrees to share the car with Felix.
They receive their new car and take it out for a spin. Parking soon becomes an issue; they try to park it in a garage but the rates are too expensive. The ultimately decide to park it on the street, but the parking hours necessitate them getting up at an early hour to move the car, and Felix constantly draws up charts to direct the car’s usage. Soon Oscar can’t take it anymore and wants to sell the car, but Felix won’t allow it. Despite this, Oscar goes behind his back to sell the car to a woman named Page, who vastly underbids the car’s worth. All the while, Oscar must conceal her from Felix.
However, Felix discovers Page and drives her out. Oscar takes to sleeping in the car and the lack of suitable parking wears on him even further. Finally, Oscar decides to get rid of the car by arranging with one of his crooked friends to have the car stolen, and then collect the insurance. Felix is appalled and tries to call the police, but Oscar manages to convince him that the car is ruining their lives. Defeated, Felix agrees, but both find that the car has been vandalized, invalidating Oscar’s scheme. Includes commercials.
