LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: THE QUIZ SHOW (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne, Shirley, Lenny, Squiggy, and Carmine attend a live taping of “Be Silly for Dollars” as Carmine is hoping to become a contestant. Host Chickie Gale first puts Lenny and Squiggy on the show, despite their lack of enthusiasm. Surprisingly, the “interesting young men” triumph as they answer their question correctly and win a giant salami. The boys decline Chickie’s tempting offer to trade the salami for kitchen furniture. Then, Laverne and Shirley appear on the show, missing their trivia question and being forced to perform a wacky stunt: dressing each other while blindfolded. The two gals successfully pull off the stunt and win a trip to “appliance street.”

Laverne and Shirley get to appear on the show again to perform yet another stunt to win some “world of luxury” items. The pair forego the stove -- which their apartment needs -- in hopes of winning a trip to Paris and some fur coats. However, the two unsuccessfully perform a cake toss and end up with some undesirable parting gifts. Afterward, Laverne and Shirley discuss why they lost the cake toss, with Laverne concluding that they were simply greedy. Frank remains pleased, as Laverne’s on-air plug for the Pizza Bowl results in more customers. That changes, however, when Lenny and Squiggy start selling salami sandwiches to those waiting to enter the eatery. Commercials deleted.
