FRANK SINATRA TIMEX SHOW, THE {BING CROSBY, DEAN MARTIN, MITZI GAYNOR, JIMMY DURANTE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this series of four musical variety specials hosted by Frank Sinatra and sponsored by Timex. In this installment, special guests Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Mitzi Gaynor sing "High Hopes," then joined by Sinatra, who sings "Day In, Day Out." He joins Martin and Crosby for "Together, Wherever We Go," after which "Hurricane Mitzi" performs an elaborate dance number with a quartet of backup performers. Sinatra sings "Talk To Me" and then begins to serenade Gaynor with "Cheek to Cheek," though Martin and Crosby soon "cut in" and take over the song. Martin sings "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," and Crosby "arbitrates" as Martin and Sinatra banter about "old songs," then performing a medley featuring "Down By the Old Mill Stream," "The Old Gray Mare," "In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree," "That Old Feeling," "Old Devil Moon," "You're an Old Smoothie," "My Old Flame" and "Old Man River."
Sinatra summons "some young'uns," many of whom are Martin's own children, for "High Hopes," and then sings "Just One of Those Things," "Angel Eyes" and "The Lady is a Tramp" solo. Sinatra, Crosby and Martin then announce that they intend to make a picture celebrating the career of Jimmy Durante, and they sing "You Gotta Start Off Each Day With a Song," "Inka Dinka Doo" and "(Won't You Come Home) Bill Bailey" before they are joined by the real Durante, who is none too pleased with their hammy impersonations. Includes commercials for Timex.
