LUCY SHOW, THE: VIV MOVES OUT (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carmichael.
Vivian has been fed up with Lucy lately. Their latest argument ends when Vivian decides to move out of the house. Lucy tells Mr. Mooney, who is distressed that he won’t have any more rent coming in and searches for a replacement tenant immediately, over Lucy’s objections. Despite Lucy’s guilt over Viv’s departure, she becomes enthused with the new tenants: Roberta Schaeffer and her son Bob, both musicians booked at a local hotel. Chris and Bob share an immediate attraction as well.
At first, Lucy enjoys Roberta and her band rehearsing in the living room, but it soon starts to wear on the family’s nerves. She starts to wear earplugs around the house. Vivian returns and makes a big apology to Lucy, but she has her earplugs in and doesn’t hear it; Vivian mistakes this for an insult and leaves, only to return to be accidentally smacked in the face by a pie crust. They make up and resolve to get Vivian back into the house, but they must first get rid of Roberta.
Lucy goes to convince Roberta to move out, but before she can say anything Roberta announces she’s got an audition in New York and will move there if she passes. However, Bob and the band have already agreed to play at Chris’s dance. Lucy decides to enlist herself, Vivian, and Mr. Mooney as band members for Roberta. They play at the audition and despite their inexperience and an impromptu drum solo from Lucy, Roberta passes. The episode ends as Roberta reveals that she was wearing earplugs to drown out the band. Includes commercials.
