KNOTS LANDING: THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD {SIXTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The sixth-season finale in this night-time drama serial, spun off from the series "Dallas," about the residents of the small southern California community of Knots Landing. In this episode, Detective Childers questions Karen about Ackerman's suicide, saying that he cannot find Mack or Nurse Wilson. At the same time, Mack breaks into Ackerman's office and looks through his files, but he is caught and arrested. He calls Ben, who arrives to pick him up and professes his ignorance of the incident at the hotel. Mack rejoins Karen, and they set off to find Val's babies yet again with Ben's help. They again encounter the name "Harry Fisher," but are unsure of his relevance, and consider looking through the adoption agency's files. Gary and Abby read about Ackerman's death in the newspaper, and Abby fields a phone call from Greg, who is angry about her conspiring with his mother, whom he has sent back home. Sheila cares for the babies at home, unaware of their illegal adoption, and her husband Harry frets over his gambling debts. Greg chases down Laura and swears that he did not cheat on her with Abby, explaining that his mother planted the lie to break them up, but she is dismissive, and when he blurts out a proposal, she reminds him that she is already married.

Ben and Mack track down a judge, but she says it will take several weeks to sort through the adoption agency's records. Karen makes a series of faked phone calls to find the children and ends up telling Gary the truth. Harry, learning of Ackerman's death, panics and tells Sheila to pack her things, but Ben and Mack finally make the connection and realize where the babies are. They head out to the Fishers', calling Karen along the way, who is thrilled by the news, and she and Gary follow the other two. Abby receives a note from Ruth and finds Val on the beach, explaining that as "the wrong Mrs. Ewing," she erroneously received a phone call stating that Val's babies were alive, and offers to take her to them. Val accepts the news in a strangely calm fashion, and when they reach the Fishers', Karen breaks the news to Sheila, who is considerably distraught. Abby arrives at the home with Val, and Val stares in shock as Harry drives hurriedly away with one of the children in the car. Commercials deleted.
