M*A*S*H {MASH}: A WAR FOR ALL SEASONS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy programs about the men and women of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M*A*S*H) stationed behind the lines during the Korean War.

In this episode, the team gathers to celebrate New Year's Eve 1950, though they end up squabbling over the Sears catalog. An exasperated Houlihan is unable to order a warm winter coat until Valentine's Day; elsewhere, Klinger and Potter enter into a bet over the National League pennant, with Klinger – and subsequently also Winchester – putting all of their faith behind the Brooklyn Dodgers. Pierce brainstorms ways to build their own artificial kidney machine out of attainable pieces of equipment, and by July 4, Potter is annoyed at the Dodgers' ongoing winning streak as Father Mulcahy carefully tends to his vegetable garden.

As the months wear on, Pierce remains frustrated about the kidney machine as Houlihan continues her obsessive knitting; Winchester grows increasingly angry with Klinger as the Dodgers begin to falter. Pierce finally gets a clever idea involving sausage casings and an oversized tub. By the end of the year, he manages to construct an unusual but fully functional machine. Winchester and Klinger are devastated when the New York Giants win the pennant instead. Making matters worse, a clip of their victory is shown as part of the news highlights of the year when everyone gathers to celebrate the arrival of 1952. Commercials deleted.
