TEN FROM YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS (TV)

Summary

A film featuring highlights from the comedy/variety television series "Your Show of Shows." In the first segment, "Breaking the News," Imogene Coca portrays a housewife who must admit to her husband (Sid Caesar) that she has wrecked his car. Next, in "At the Movies," Caesar, Coca, and Carl Reiner play movie patrons for whom the film being shown becomes almost incidental. In the following sketch, Caesar sits down to enjoy the performance of an opera singer, but everything he does makes a loud, embarrassing noise. In "Big Business," Caesar chairs a corporate board meeting. The gang orders lunch, but Caesar's order is not filled. He is so hungry that he struggles to sneak bites from everyone else's meal. In the following silent-screen story, Coca plays "The Sewing Machine Girl." Fellow sewing-machine operator Caesar flirts with her and defends her honor when their boss's behavior goes too far. Next, Reiner plays a reporter who interviews Professor Ludwig von Spacebrain, played by Caesar. Spacebrain is a disheveled mess, and his answers to Reiner's questions leave a lot to be desired. Cast members then perform as the mechanical figures of a clock chime in Bavaria. The famous clock, viewers learn, was thought to be in perfect working order -- until now. The following sketch features Caesar as a German military general who turns out to be less of a general than expected. Next, in a parody of the film "From Here to Eternity," Caesar plays an Army recruit who desires nothing more than to play the bugle. His sergeant (Reiner) is less than pleased, and Caesar receives "the Treatment." At a party later, Caesar hits it off with the Duchess (Coca), to the Sergeant's dismay. In the final sketch, a television parody, Reiner hosts "This is Your Story." He walks out into the audience to find the selected audience member, played by Caesar. The poor man is forced to join the host on the stage, where he is reunited with long-lost family members and a significant other.
