ADVENTURES OF JINI ME, THE {ANTURIAETHAU JINI ME}: A PRESENT FOR MAM / CADI ANN'S BUDGIE / JINI FALLS IN LOVE (TV)

Summary

Three installments in this Welsh children's series about the adventures of young Jini Me Jones and her friends. In the first episode, the kids debate what to get their mothers for Mother's Day, and Ho notes that his mother would be glad to have more patrons in their family restaurant. At home, Jini Me's mother complains about feeling overworked and underappreciated, and Jini and the others decide to open a hair salon to raise money for a present for her. Glenys and Bobi come by and Jini attempts to give them exciting new hairdos, but business is slow and Robat John wonders if kids are allowed to go "on strike" from their parents. Jini decides that they need to advertise, and they use menus from Ho's family's restaurant to promote their salon. No one comes, however, and Glenys and the other soon demand their money back. However, Ho's father happily reports that their business has gone up thanks to Jini's "promotion," and offers to repay her however she chooses. Jini gets an idea and arranges for her mother and father to have a fancy evening out, complete with Wil Cocos as their chauffeur. The kids wait at home as their parents have a lavish dinner at Ho's restaurant, and Jini's mother is thrilled with her perfect Mother's Day present.

In the second episode, the Jones family grows annoyed with Cadi Ann's noisy, ugly parakeet, Tinkibell, though she feels that her pet is very pretty indeed. Elsewhere, the neighborhood kids engage in an all-out war game with mud and paint, and when Jini's team captures Glenys' team, Bobi flees when the others tease him for a strange rash on his face. Jini gets a "brilliant idea" and puts a mirror in Tinkibell's cage, but the children are then shocked when the bird drops dead. They have a somber funeral, and Jini eavesdrops on a distressed Mrs. Mathews and believes that Bobi, like the bird, is doomed because he looked into her mirror and saw his "ugly" looks. Upset, Jini asks her mother if it would have been kinder to lie about both Tinkibell and Bobi's appearances, and she buys Cadi Ann a new bird as an apology, though her sister is displeased with the gesture. Jini then takes sweets to Bobi, though Glenys intercepts the gift, and Jini is relieved to learn that Bobi is perfectly well and the deadly "rash" was merely paint from the game. Glenys nonetheless refuses to give the candy back, and the kids resume their epic battle.

In the third episode, Jini attends Magi Naci's dance class and observes Miss Ellis-Jones and her two awkward suitors, Barri and Wmffra, both of whom wish to dance with her in the upcoming competition. Both men describe the sensation of being in love to Jini, though she is more interested in the children's disco competition. Magi Naci announces that the winner will receive a night out with Gwydion Rhun, the dreamy star of the band The Purple Insects, and Jini is instantly smitten with the young "charismatic" fellow. She gives Barri and Wmffra advice on winning over Miss Ellis-Jones, and they send Jini off to shower her with their gifts. She meets Gwydion along the way, however, and ends up giving the presents to him instead, though she is saddened when he shares them with a pretty girl. All three of them are disappointed, and Jini decides to dance on her own in the disco competition. On the night of the contest, all of the kids dance in their own unique styles and Glenys and Jini are named the finalists. Miss Ellis-Jones stuns everyone by dancing with Penri the policeman instead, and Gwydion reveals that the other girl was his sister and he wants Jini to win first place. He doses Glenys with itching powder, causing her to run off the dance floor, but realizing his unfair trick, Jini fakes an injury and quits the contest. First runner-up Alffi is named the winner, and Gwydion is confused as well as itchy, as Jini sneaked the powder into his jacket as well. The contest over, Jini heads off to resume her usual fun with Barri and Wmffra. Commercials deleted.
