ROSEANNE: TWO FOR ONE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Roseanne and Dan Conner, a working-class couple who live in Lanford, Illinois, and their three kids, D.J., Darlene, and Becky. In this episode, Roseanne discovers some extremely outdated milk during a late-night trip to the kitchen, and then encounters David, who nervously assures her that he and Darlene have not been intimate lately. Later, Roseanne explains to Jackie that she has banned junk food from the house during her pregnancy and that Dan is grumpy as a result of the sugar withdrawal. When she mentions that Darlene and David are not having sex, Jackie reveals that she recently saw Darlene at a motel. Roseanne confronts her daughter about her lie, and Roseanne and David are both taken aback when Darlene admits that she was at the motel with another guy, a college classmate named Jimmy. Darlene explains that they were merely talking and that David is accepting of the friendship, but Roseanne informs her that she is being insensitive to her boyfriend's feelings.
Jackie arrives at the garage to "have lunch" with Fred, and when she questions Dan about his ongoing bad mood, he admits that he is having doubts about the new baby. She points out that he experienced similar nervousness before the birth of all of his children and assures him that it is normal, and he seems comforted. Roseanne asks David about Darlene's new "friend," and he admits that he is willing to put up with it and sacrifice his dignity to keep her. Encouraged by Jackie's words, Dan comes clean to Roseanne about his uncertainty, but she reacts with offense and tells him that it is far too late to be unsure. While shopping for maternity clothes, she admits to Jackie that she too is worried because of her advanced age, but Jackie tells her that her feelings are also normal and urges her to discuss them openly with her husband. David decides to stand up for himself and confronts Darlene, telling her that she must make a choice, and is stunned when she chooses Jimmy. She protests that they are still young and must explore other relationships, but he leaves, crushed. Despite his claims, Roseanne realizes that Dan is still nervous about the new baby, and she ends up comforting him rather than voicing her own fears. Later, Dan has an unpleasant encounter with the expired milk, but manages to return it to the fridge before collapsing. Includes commercials and promos.
