WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUEST: MARIAN ANDERSON} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this episode, host John Daly presides over a panel which includes actress Arlene Francis, author Abe Burrows, actress Anita Gillette and publisher Bennett Cerf. Employing only yes-or-no questions, the panel first attempts to discover the "line" of Sharon Wilhoit of Texas, who is an usher, or "Spacette," at the new Astrodome stadium in Houston, and the panelists quickly get the right answer, largely thanks to Francis. Next, they question Jan Diederik Medendorp of the Netherlands, who repairs and restores windmills and is currently at work on "The Swan" in Michigan, and they are stumped for some time until Cerf guesses that he is involved with the iconic Dutch landmarks. After donning blindfolds, the panel attempts to discover the identity of this week's mystery guest, singer Marian Anderson, and they are again confounded, eventually wondering if she is last week's guest, Barbra Streisand. Upon spotting Anderson, the panelists note that there is an article about her in that very day's New York Times, and Daly comments that Anderson has twenty honorary doctorates. The panelists then bid one another, and an absent Dorothy Kilgallen, on the mend from a shoulder injury, good night. Includes commercials.
