WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUESTS: BETTY WHITE; ALLEN LUDDEN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this episode, host John Daly presides over a panel which includes journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, actor Martin Gabel, actress Arlene Francis, and publisher Bennett Cerf.

Employing only yes-or-no questions, the panel first attempts to discover the "line" of Inta Venags of Indianapolis, who is a chiropractor. The panelists come close, discovering that she is in the medicinal field, but no one guesses correctly. Next, they question Sheldon Goldstein of Norwich, NY, who makes sauerkraut, and the panelists are again unsuccessful. Goldstein explains the process of making sauerkraut, and after donning blindfolds, the panel attempts to discover the identity of this week's mystery guests, "Password" host Allen Ludden and frequent guest star Betty White. They both use disguised voices, but the panelists soon discover that there are in fact two guests and Francis guesses their identities correctly by asking "Is the password 'marriage'?", referring to the famous couple having wed one week previously (on the fourteenth). The final guest is Bobby Moore of London, England, who is a professional soccer (or football) player, and the panelists fail to guess his specific sport. Includes commercials.
