NEW ADVENTURES OF MADELINE, THE {MADELINE}: MADELINE AND THE LOST CROWN (TV)
Summary
One in this series of animated programs, also known as "Madeline," based on Ludwig Bemelmans's classic children's books about Madeline, a feisty little girl who lives at a boarding school in Paris. In this episode, the girls' neighbor Pepito informs them that the Prince of Monaco will soon be arriving in town, and when he does they are pleased to see that he is in fact their age. The boy, Pierre, soon joins in with Pepito and the girls' games, but his fussy valet, Philippe, is concerned about the safety of the prince's royal crown. Pierre is hauled off to "posture lessons," and Madeline later hears him crying over his boring, stuffy life. She invites him to accompany the girls on their daily morning walk, saying that Miss Clavel can convince Philippe. When they go out and play a game of soccer, Pierre's crown keeps getting in the way, and he declares it to be useless, and Madeline tries it on, singing a song about how she would like nothing better than "A Crown of Gold." The children get ice cream, and Pierre decides to lock his crown and cape in a safe for the rest of the day.
Pierre enjoys the rest of his day with the others and roams the city unrecognized. When he returns, however, his crown is missing, sending Philippe into a panic about the upcoming royal parade. "Detective Madeline" gets on the case and the girls search for the crown, first thinking it is on the metro and then spotting a similar tiara on a store mannequin, but they have no luck. Detective Moreau joins their efforts and traces some mysterious chocolate "spots" to Pepito's hat collection, and when the crown is found there, Pepito looks guilty. Madeline defends him, however, and Pierre finally admits that he himself hid the crown in order to avoid wearing it and ruining his own fun. Madeline gets an idea, however, and she and the other girl create a padding system for him to wear atop the crown so that it does not get in the way. Delighted, Philippe invites the girls and Pepito to ride on the Monaco float in the parade, and everyone enjoys a snack before going to bed. Later that night, Miss Clavel finds the girls fighting over their own homemade crowns, but she reminds them that good friends are the most precious "jewels" of all. Includes commercials and promos.
