BEVERLY HILLBILLIES: THE CLAMPETTS FIDDLE AROUND (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a family of dim-witted mountain people made suddenly rich by the discovery of oil on their property, and their new lives in a Beverly Hills mansion. In this episode, Granny searches for an absent Jethro and Elly May proudly presents Jed with a shirt she made, proving that her sewing skills are not much better than her cooking. Jed tells Granny that Jethro left for the music store, and when Jane arrives, she explains that she took Jethro to see a famous violinist, Sebastian Stromboli, and that he was so taken with the music that he decided to take up the instrument himself. Jed and Granny encourage Jane to go hire this famous Stromboli to teach Jethro at any cost. Jane takes Milburn with her to visit the man, though she doubts that he will condescend to teach someone so green. When they meet the arrogant artist, however, he is swayed by the large fee they offer and agrees to instruct him.
Jane happily informs Jed that Stromboli has agreed, but she is dismayed when she sees that Jethro has purchased a cello. She is further alarmed when she realizes that Jethro was only interested in Stromboli's fame and attention from women, and laments her "terrible mistake." Granny and Jed, meanwhile, hope that Stromboli will teach Jethro some proper dancing tunes. Stromboli arrives, and Jane attempts to explain the situation, but he decides to go through with the lesson anyway, needing the money for his many alimony payments. Elly May fixes Jed's shirt with the help of Bessie, her pet chimp, and then appeals to her father for piano lessons for the animal. Granny grows annoyed that Stromboli does not appear to know any "standards," and though Jane is enraptured by his classical playing, Jethro soon falls asleep. The lesson continues to go downhill, and Stromboli protests that he cannot teach Jethro, but soon hears a brilliant pianist playing along with him: Bessie. Jed and Granny decide that it is Stromboli who needs the lessons, and they summon Fiddlin' Sam Dingle to instruct him. Stromboli is insulted until he hears about Sam's exorbitant salary, at which point he agrees to try some more down-home music. Commercials deleted.
