ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The first in this series of frenetically-paced comedy programs hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin.

Highlights include the following: Rowan patiently explains the show's weekly format to Martin; attendees of a cocktail party offer one-liners; the "Sock it To 'Em" segment; a performance by falsetto ukulele player "Tiny Tim"; a "non-classical debut" of two opera singers; Martin's "tidbits from Tinseltown" and Rowan's news report from 1984, including updates on President Robert Kennedy; a report from Antarctica; an interview with the "very first man," Adam; a performance from The Strawberry Alarm Clock, to which Rowan objects, owing to the members "vandalism"; the "Mod, Mod World" segment, which examines the American family; an interview with the "Mother of the Year," a mom of 24 children who lives in an igloo; a scene from a sequel to the racial drama "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"; a scene of the First Family, in which President Johnson receives late-night visits from his daughters, Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen, Senator Robert Kennedy and his large family and others; a performance of "Where Are Your Children Tonight?"; and a "salute to the establishment," in which the performers encourage one another to reach out to society's "fuddy-duddies." Martin and Rowan also preview the upcoming week's show. Commercials deleted.
