DINAH SHORE CHEVY SHOW, THE {GALE STORM, BURL IVES, JOHN RAITT, THE MORMON CHOIR OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of music/variety programs hosted by Dinah Shore. In this Christmas-themed episode, Shore sings "Sleigh Ride" and then chats with her first guest, Gale Storm, about the festive "snow" filling the Los Angeles studio. John Raitt joins Shore and Storm for "Christmas is Coming," and after a bit of banter about the best way to build a fire, Burl Ives chimes in on "Let It Snow." Ives recites a funny Christmas poem from his childhood and performs a madrigal, "Landlord, Fill the Flowing Bowl," and all of the guests sing "My Juanita." Shore performs "The Christmas Song," Raitt performs "The Tower of Babel," and Storm sings "Winter Warm," after which the Mormon Choir of Southern California sings a medley of traditional hymns. Shore introduces the choir's conductor, H. Frederick Davis, and then sings "Happy Christmas, Little Friend." Ives finds his young "nephew" placing cookies under the tree for Santa, and he tells him about the first-ever Christmas presents delivered by "The Friendly Beasts."
Next, choreographer Tony Charmoli and Shore's young daughter Melissa Ann appear alongside Shore as dancing chimney-sweeps preparing the rooftop for Santa's arrival as the choir sings "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear." The choir then performs "Caroling, Caroling," and Shore, Raitt, Storm and Ives perform "Silver Bells," "White Christmas," "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "I Wonder as I Wander," followed by the choir's rendition of "Coventry Carol." The program closes with "Silent Night." Includes in-studio commercials for Chevrolet.
