MARRIED . . . WITH CHILDREN: REQUIEM FOR A DEAD BRIARD (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy programs about the ever-dysfunctional Bundy family.

Buck passes away and Kelly is particularly upset at his passing. Unbeknownst to the Bundy family, Buck finds himself in the "animal afterlife" greeted by a man in a chicken suit named Thomas. Thomas explains he is there due to "computer error" and that he was a sports mascot who accidentally provoked a man into shooting him. He tells Buck that if he is judged to be a good dog, he will be reincarnated as the animal of his choice; Buck wishes to come back as an eagle. Al tries to comfort Kelly over Buck's death, but it isn't working. Marcy suggests getting her a replacement pet, but Al is too cheap to get a good pet for her. Jefferson gets a hold of a rare talking cockatoo, and Kelly seems to warm up to it somewhat.

Meanwhile, in the animal afterlife, Buck is dismayed to learn that a cat will be the judge of his life. Kelly names the cockatoo "Tweety" and starts to get attached to it, but it is soon eaten by Peg's mother. Kelly is distraught and Marcy points out that she needs closure for Buck's death; to that end she arranges a séance to communicate with Buck's spirit. They call upon Father Guido Sarducci to conduct the séance, which doesn't get off to a good start. Meanwhile, Buck's hearing in the afterlife goes poorly as Thomas reads aloud all of Buck's actions against cats during his lifetime. The judge leaves to decide his sentence. Meanwhile, at Al's urging, Father Sarducci fakes being possessed by Buck's spirit. "Buck" tells Kelly that although he misses her, they should both move on and she should get a new dog. Afterwards, a puppy materializes on the coffee table in a flash of light. Kelly interprets this as a sign from Buck and names the new dog "Lucky." Unbeknownst to the Bundy's, Lucky is actually Buck reincarnated, much to his horror. Commercials deleted.
