MARRIED . . . WITH CHILDREN: AL BUNDY, SHOE DICK (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy programs about the ever-dysfunctional Bundy family.
At Peg's insistence, Al gets a second job as a janitor for a private detective. A woman named Vanessa Van Pelt comes into the office mistaking Al for the detective, and he ends up taking a case from her. She wants protection from her family, who are gathering for a dinner with her uncle Colonel Van Pelt; she says he plans to give his valuable diamond to her and her relatives desire it for themselves. At the dinner, Vanessa goes outside for a moment just before the lights go out; when they come back on it is revealed that Colonel Van Pelt has been murdered, the diamond stolen, and Al is holding the bloody knife. Terrified, Al runs away. He explains everything to Kelly and Bud and they try to help him escape the law, as he is now wanted for murder. Marcy attempts to turn Al in for reward money, but he escapes.
Al calls the Van Pelt family together in a parlor to determine who the real killer is. He accuses each of them in turn, but each one has an alibi which stymies him. He finally comes to Vanessa and accuses her of the crime. Her alibi is that she was outside in the rain at the time of the murder, but Al disproves her by using his shoe salesman expertise, demonstrating that the cheap high heels she was wearing dissolve upon contact with water. The police arrest Vanessa and Al is given a huge check as a reward. He is ecstatic, but it turns out that the entire scenario was a dream and Peg awakens him. He also discovers that other recent events were part of the dream, such as Bud's "Grandmaster B" persona (which he decides to adopt in the real world). Most shocking of all, Al discovers that Peg's pregnancy was merely part of the dream as well. Commercials deleted.
