NEWSRADIO: LUCKY BURGER (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies about the employees of WNYX, an all-news radio station in New York City. Matthew is upset about Max replacing Bill and finds it suspicious that he was fired from 37 other radio stations. Lisa convinces Dave to let her do an undercover exposé on health code violations at a local fast food restaurant, Lucky Burger. Matthew has Joe ask around, and discovers that none of Max's previous stations have any record of him working there. However, Dave ignores what he refers to as Matthew's "witch hunt" against Max. At the Lucky Burger, Lisa tries to secretly pass off information about the restaurant's health code violations to Mr. James. When Dave asks Max about his resumé, Max runs away; eventually Beth finds him in the men's room. At the Lucky Burger, Lisa does more snooping around until she is promoted to assistant manager, much to her surprise. Dave meets with Max in his office and asks him why his other stations have no record of him. He reveals that he adopts a different alias for every station he works for in order to create on-air personas. "Max Lewis" is merely the name he devised for WNYX. Mr. James asks Lisa to come back to the station, but she claims that she and the other Lucky Burger employees cleaned up the health code violations and she seems to enjoy the authority which comes from her new position. When Dave refuses to help Max define his "character," he starts reading the news in a variety of foreign accents, much to Dave's displeasure. A New York health inspector arrives at the Lucky Burger and spots a patch of spilled condiments which Lisa was cleaning up, marking it as a health violation. Lisa tries to bribe him not to report the violation. Dave becomes frustrated with Max's personas and asks him to be himself, but Max says he cannot because he feels his real self is too "weird" to be accepted by his listeners. Lisa returns to WNYX, fired from Lucky Burger for trying to bribe the health inspector. Dave realizes that Max feels he is too "weird" to be around his co-workers, so he takes Max aside to point out all the strange behaviors and sensibilities of the WNYX staff. Dave proves his point and Max now feels that he can be himself without discomfort. Commercials deleted.
