HAPPY DAYS: GRADUATION {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
The second of two programs on this asset. One in this series of comedies about life in the 1950s.
In this episode (a continuation of the storyline from B:55874), Richie, Potsie, and Ralph battle exhaustion from their late-night studies as Fonzie vehemently makes them continue. The hard work pays off when the guys pass the exam the following morning.
As the boys are celebrating at the Cunningham, Fonzie interrupts and shows them a letter stating that night school students can't take part in graduation ceremonies. He's insulted to learn that his diploma will be mailed to him. Richie then gets all the students to sign a protest petition, which Vice Principal Conners ignores. Richie then goes to Principal Haley, who says that Fonzie can attend after all. When the boys tell Fonzie the good news, he mistakenly believes that he can make a speech at the ceremony, which he starts composing.
When graduation day arrives, Spike shows up to support Fonzie, and Arnold returns to hobnob with Al and congratulate the Cunninghams. Once the program begins, the students put their plan into action: rushing through the agenda to make time for Fonzie's speech. That includes Potsie's speedy rendition of the school song and Ralph's brief presentation of awards, which Vice Principal Conners observes quizically. Fonzie then makes a speech which wows the crowd, and leaves enough time for valedictorian Richie to deliver final remarks.
The diplomas are subsequently handed out, with the Fonz still afraid that his won't be presented. Over Vice Principal Conners' objections, Principal Haley officially acknowledges Fonzie. Thanks to Richie, the Cunninghams' mailman then enters to give Fonzie his diploma in front of the whole student body. Commercials deleted.
