MAD ABOUT YOU: THE CONVERSATION (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Paul and Jamie, a married couple who live in New York City.
Jamie and Paul are attempting to get Mabel to go to sleep on her own. To do this, they set a timer for certain intervals and listen outside her door to see if she stops crying. At each interval they are to go in and try to comfort her verbally; Jamie insists that Mabel cannot see or hear them otherwise. Paul does not agree with this method, preferring to be there to comfort his daughter, but Jamie insists that it is teaching her how to cope with discomfort and that it will ultimately be good for her. While waiting outside the door, Paul and Jamie have a long conversation, touching on many topics, such as Jamie winning 500 pounds of rigatoni in a contest and Paul's concerns over his height.
At several points, Paul attempts to go into the room early to comfort Mabel but Jamie insists that they continue the process. At one point, Paul must surreptitiously enter the room to get Murray out, who somehow managed to elude their notice. Paul starts talking about his desire to move to the suburbs, and he and Jamie have an argument over the merits of suburban living. Jamie realizes they are "incompatible" as parents due to their radically different views over what they want for Mabel. When Jamie remarks that she feels unwell, Paul helps her realize that her gut instinct is to comfort Mabel. Just before they can, the two hear that Mabel has finally gone to sleep. Jamie comments that they "broke her heart" because she is now aware that her parents will not always be there for her. She wants to go in but Paul is worried they will wake her. She tells him to reset the timer and they continue to wait outside the door. Commercials deleted.
