DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: Y2K, YOU'RE OKAY {SEASON FIVE PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. Mimi finds an ally in Doreen, a little person who works in accounting, who begins to imitate Mimi's behavior and appearance. They work together to enact pranks against Drew. Meanwhile, Drew continues to pursue his relationship with Sharon, although she suspects that Drew still has feelings for Kate. The office conducts a test of its systems to prepare for Y2K. Somehow the test goes awry and Drew's personal diary is sent to all the other office computers, revealing several of his embarrassing secrets to his co-workers. He speaks to Hal, the office IT specialist, who gives Drew an apocalyptic view of the world after Y2K, and gives him a book about the impending disaster to read. Hal's book convinces Drew and his friends that they are all doomed, and that they must build a shelter and gather supplies. Mimi and Doreen sell copies of Drew's diary; Sharon reads it and discovers that Drew accidentally referred to her as "Kate" while writing about the first night they had sex. This convinces Sharon that Drew is still in love with Kate, and she storms out. Doreen starts to feel remorse about what she and Mimi did to Drew, so Mimi drives her away in a rage. Drew decides to buy Sharon a puppy in order to get her to forgive him. The bomb shelter is built and Drew and the others start conducting drills to prepare for Y2K. Sharon is won over by Drew bringing her the puppy, and Drew purposefully locks Kate out of the bomb shelter in order to talk to Sharon and promise to be loyal to her. Sharon admits that she overreacted and they make up. The episode ends with the Y2K bug causing the end of the world, and Drew left alone in the bomb shelter when he suffers an unfortunate accident.
