DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: DREW LIVE {EAST COAST FEED} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. Drew introduces this episode, which has an unusual format: it is being performed live, and Brad Sherwood serves as a host to periodically interject in various scenes, calling upon the performers to improvise their dialogue or to alter the scene in some fashion. Steve and Mimi are each planning their bachelor and bachelorette parties respectively, and Steve is upset at the unseemly activities Mimi is planning for hers’. There is also a scene involving Drew and quick-change artist Arturo Brachetti, and Wayne Brady and Laura Hall appear to improvise new lyrics to the show’s opening credits. Mimi and Steve resolve their argument and agree to combine their bachelor and bachelorette parties into a single huge party. Kate confides in Lewis that since Drew is dating again, she may get her opportunity to confess to him that she loves him. Drew and Oswald overhear Kate talking to Lewis, but Drew mistakenly believes she’s talking about someone else, and laments that he squandered his chance to be with Kate. He hopes to confront the person he believes Kate is in love with at Steve and Mimi’s party. At the party, Drew waits anxiously for Kate. Steve’s concerns about offending the ladies at the party with bad behavior are swept aside when it is revealed that the women hired a male stripper. Lewis tries to inform Drew that he is the one Kate is in love with, but Drew does not pick up on his obvious hints. Finally Kate arrives, but Drew mistakenly believes that she is in love with Wayne and gets confrontational with him. Another misunderstanding results in Eugene kissing Drew, much to his discomfort. Finally Drew gets the opportunity to speak with Kate, but feels as though he’s behaved badly and isn’t ready to be in a relationship with her, leaving the matter unresolved. Includes commercials.
