NORM {A.K.A. THE NORM SHOW}: NORM VS. CHRISTMAS (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a former professional hockey player who is employed as a social worker in order to meet the terms of his court-appointed community service. It's Christmastime and Norm is very much into the spirit of the thing, extensively decorating the office and throwing a party despite Max's objections. Laurie is highly stressed due to all the work she has to do, including assisting Drake, a little person who wants to be a mall Santa but was not permitted to. Danny admits to Norm that he is attracted to Taylor, and during the Secret Santa gift exchange he gets her an expensive diamond bracelet. However, when she privately expresses discomfort at receiving the gift, Danny pretends that it is actually a fake to assuage her. Norm is distressed to learn that Laurie hates Christmas, so he and Artie, dressed as Santa, break into her place in the middle of the night to secretly plant Christmas decorations in an effort to get her into the Christmas spirit. However, Laurie is startled by Artie's arrival and shoots him in the leg. Artie is rushed to the hospital for his gunshot wound. Taylor sits in the waiting room and tries to comfort a little girl distressed at seeing "Santa" wounded. She gives the little girl the bracelet, but Danny arrives and takes it back. Taylor is appalled, but Danny reveals the actual worth of it and tries to confess his feelings for her. Taylor is uncertain of how to respond and says she needs time to think about it. Meanwhile, Norm brings Laurie to visit Artie in his hospital bed, where he is convalescing. She is too frightened to confront Artie directly, but changes her mind when Artie says he forgives her for shooting him. Laurie explains to Norm that her hatred of Christmas stems from her childhood, where the holiday season would mark increased strife between her parents and general misery in the family. Norm reveals that his own childhood Christmases were similarly miserable, but he counters that she should try to enjoy the holiday regardless of her circumstances, and this seems to comfort her. Laurie returns home to find the decorations Norm and Artie set up, and Norm and Drake (dressed as Santa) waiting for her. She is overjoyed at this display of the Christmas spirit and the three have a Christmas party. The next morning, however, Laurie shoots Drake, similar to how she shot Artie. Includes commercials.
