CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE {CARL REINER, MELBA MOORE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs starring Carol Burnett. This program features special guests Carl Reiner and Melba Moore. The episode begins as Burnett takes the stage and chats with the audience, taking questions and signing an autograph for a young fan. In the first sketch, two crazily costumed hopefuls arrive bright and early on the set of the game show "Let's Make A Bargain," and are surprised to recognize one another from the past. Burnett then introduces Moore, who sings "You've Got A Friend," followed by the sketch "Terminal Hospital," at which the ruthless Head Nurse Higgins deals with society woman--and secret murderess--worried about her husband's operation. The surgeon privately frets that he cannot do the procedure due to his shaky hands, but Higgins wills him through the operation with the help of a male nurse with a mysterious past. Next, a writer annoys his characters as he attempts to construct a dramatic film noir scene, but repeatedly changes his mind about the story and finally gives up in frustration.

Burnett and Moore sing "Have A Little Talk With Myself," and in an installment of "Non-Violent Theatre" called "The Plot to Hurt Hitler," several Third Reich soldiers construct a plan to do away with their leader with the help of a waitress and a few choice code words. In the end, Hitler uncovers the plot, but is forced to punish the traitors without bloodshed. Finally, Burnett, Moore, Reiner and the rest of the supporting cast perform a parody musical entitled "The Rip-Off" in which a group of rowdy young boys challenges two girls to shoplift from a candy store. After stealing a jellybean, they are arrested and sent to trial, where the shopkeeper dramatically describes their heinous crime, but they maintain their innocence and are eventually freed. Burnett then closes the show by singing her signature good-night song and adding her guests' autographs to her guest book. Commercials deleted.
