FELICITY: FINALLY (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic series about a privileged, impulsive girl named Felicity Porter, who studies in New York City and undergoes the rites of passage toward adulthood. Noel and Felicity are talking about their budding relationship when he receives a panicked call from his mother; his uncle is in a coma and he needs to visit him. Noel leaves and tells Felicity not to get back together with Ben while he’s gone. Upon his return, Noel wants to pursue his relationship with Felicity but realizes that recent events have prevented him from studying for the upcoming finals. They agree to avoid each other for the next few days so that they can study and will get back together after Christmas break so that they can better define their relationship. In the cafeteria, Felicity speaks to a student who has alleviated his finals stress with anti-depressants. He recommends them to Felicity, but she refuses. Meanwhile, Noel is forced to deal with Richard, a student living on his floor who is barbequing meat in his dorm room, much to Noel’s displeasure. Noel vows to report Richard to campus safety. Noel finds Felicity and tells her of his recent woes, including picking up the wrong bag at the airport. Now his notes are gone and he is in need of help in writing an essay on “Great Expectations.” Felicity agrees to help him despite their promise to avoid each other. They study together but cannot resist the temptation to make out with each other in the middle of the library. Meanwhile, Ben and Julie study together but Ben is making little headway for his English final. Felicity and Noel make out in the stacks and are spotted by Richard, who sees it as an opportunity to get revenge on Noel by reporting him. Noel runs off after him, leaving Felicity at the library. Ben arrives and asks Felicity for help in studying for his English final. She agrees; Ben notes that he noticed her studying with Noel but she allays his suspicions. Noel catches up with Richard and they argue; Richard is still bitter about being reported for his barbeque, but has not yet decided whether to report Noel or not. Noel returns to the library and Elena informs him of Felicity’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Felicity helps Ben understand Keats, but the conversation soon turns to Noel. Elsewhere in the library, Sean attempts to sell fruit to the studying students but is having little success. Julie asks him for help with her Economics final, but Sean soon finds that Julie is much better at selling fruit than him. Noel runs into Meghan while searching for Felicity. She recommends he use an herbal concoction she calls “smart powder” to help give him enough mental clarity to study. Julie assists Sean in his fruit-selling scheme in the hopes of getting him to help her pass her Economics final. Noel soon finds he has a bad reaction to the powder causing him to become agitated and hyper. Ben admits to Felicity that he accidentally saw her and Noel making out in the bathroom, and wants to know exactly what’s going on. As Felicity tries to explain, Noel sees them together and grows more agitated. Finally he can take no more and bursts in, yelling at Ben. When they start to argue, Felicity gets fed up and leaves; she has spent so much time helping Noel and Ben that she has yet to study for her own finals. Later, Ben and Noel talk in the cafeteria after Noel has calmed down. Ben reassures Noel that Felicity genuinely likes him. Elena lets Felicity in on the secrets of her “system,” allowing her to study for her finals. Noel manages to smooth things over with Richard. Noel gets Felicity to step out during her final. He informs her that his uncle died and he is leaving to see her. He apologizes for trying to rush their relationship and his need to strictly define it; they promise that whatever they are, they will not be so hasty in defining it. Ben informs Felicity that he has changed his mind about flying back to Palo Alto with her, and will be staying in New York over winter break. Unbeknownst to Felicity, Ben has begun a relationship with Julie. The episode ends as Sally replies to Felicity, advising her that one need not always strictly define roles in a relationship.
