FRASIER: THE UNNATURAL (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Frasier Crane, a divorced psychiatrist who lives in Seattle and hosts a phone-in radio show.
In this episode, Frasier tries to use his "celebrity status" to secure a private tour of the Microsoft headquarters for his son Frederick, visiting from Boston for the weekend, though he has little success. He appeals to Roz, who recently caused trouble at the station's softball game, asking that she call in a favor with her obsessive ex-boyfriend Scott, who works at Microsoft, reminding Roz of her childhood love of teen idol Bobby Sherman. Back at home, Frasier and Niles recall their own awkward Boy Scout days as Frasier describes plans with his son; Niles quickly grows jealous of Frederick's innocent crush on Daphne. Later, Frasier gives Frederick a tour of the radio station, where Bulldog falsely claims that Frasier is excellent at sports. Frasier is relieved when Frederick changes his mind about the Microsoft tour – but he then requests to see his father in the next softball game, subbing in for an injured Roz; Frasier is forced to agree.
Not wishing to shatter his son's admiration, Frasier resolves to master the art of softball in a few days, and Martin takes him to the batting cages, happy for a rare opportunity to bond with his son over a "manly" activity. Frasier proves inept with a bat. When Martin asks about the moment in which a young Frasier realized his own father's fallibility, he relates a minor incident in which Martin failed to do a simple calculation in his head. At home, Niles is intrigued by Frederick's "accidental" invasion of Daphne's privacy, and Frasier sits his son down and gently explains that he "stinks" at softball. Frederick is unfazed, as he was already well-acquainted with his father's imperfections. An embarrassed Frasier quickly spills the beans about Grandpa's shoddy math skills. Later, Daphne is overjoyed by an in-person visit from her favorite celebrity.
