CHEERS: THE GIRL IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar. Frasier remains at Cheers until the afternoon, still depressed about Lilith leaving him. Cliff, Carla, and Sam all offer Frasier advice about how to win Lilith back, although Frasier dismisses all of it. Lilith arrives and speaks to Frasier in Sam's office, explaining that she wants a "trial separation" rather than a divorce. She asks that Frasier take sole custody of Frederick while she's gone, and Frasier chastises her for seemingly abandoning him. She notes that this incident has been difficult for her as well, and they have an argument. She reveals that she and Dr. Pascal are to be the first human inhabitants of his "Eco-pod," an artificially-created self-sustaining underground environment, which they will inhabit for a year to perform research experiments. Frasier asks her why she's doing this and she explains that her life has always been "disciplined and regimented," and that despite her marriage and various accomplishments she has always felt empty. She explains that Dr. Pascal's spontaneity and unpredictability excites her in new ways, and that she wants to explore that. Frasier doesn't fully understand, but wishes Lilith the best. Lilith takes the opportunity to give everyone in the bar a parting word before she leaves. Frasier comes out, doing his best to handle the pain of his separation from Lilith. He decides to go upstairs and stand out on a windowsill, threatening to jump off and kill himself. The police arrive to stop him and a sizable crowd assembles to watch. Soon Sam and the rest of the bar realize what's going on and rush out to stop him. Cliff and Sam get on the police megaphone to talk to Frasier, and Sam admits that he loves Frasier as a friend. Lilith arrives and gets the megaphone as well, but her words are much harsher, defending her decision and refusing to get back together with him. Carla and Rebecca go inside to try to talk Frasier off the ledge from within, but he does not listen to them. Lilith comes in and sends Rebecca and Carla away so she can talk to Frasier herself. He says he's going to jump because he can't live with the thought that Lilith loves someone else. Finally she capitulates and promises to remain with Frasier despite the fact that it would make her unhappy. Frasier comes inside and embraces Lilith, but then tells her to leave, saying he could never be happy knowing that Lilith was unfulfilled in their relationship. Frasier stays in Cheers until late in the night, seemingly much more collected than before. Lilith arrives to give a final goodbye to Frasier. She says she just said goodbye to Frederick, who doesn't fully grasp the implications of Lilith's departure. Dr. Pascal comes in as well, telling Frasier that he accidentally scratched his car. They leave, and Frasier bids them farewell. Commercials deleted.
