POPULAR: TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (TV)

Summary

One in this series about two teenage girls from vastly different social circles who become stepsisters when their single parents hook up, throwing the entire social structure of Kennedy High School out of whack. In this episode, Jane finds a condom in the girls’ bathroom and proceeds to give them an embarrassing sex talk. At the same time, Sugar Daddy chats with his anonymous online lady friend and they confess that they are both virgins. When he learns that she is a cheerleader and wants to meet, though, he becomes nervous about whether she will accept him. At school, everyone is talking about sexually explicit new pop song, which Lily finds to send an “irresponsible message,” and she declares her intentions to pass out contraceptives to the students. Brooke confronts Sam about the condom and mocks her for not having a boyfriend, and Sam retorts that Brooke’s relationship with Josh is entirely shallow. They make a bet in which Sam will find a date and Brooke will prove the depth of her relationship, and the loser must join Knees Together, the celibacy club. Lily is forbidden by the nurse to hand out condoms, as it will seem to “promote sex,” and she schemes with Harrison to “beat the system.” Sam runs across the handsome older man Leo Ferrara and learns that he is giving tennis lessons at the school, and decides to sign up to get close to him.

Brooke, worried that her relationship really is superficial, decides to invite Josh to a family dinner to prove that they are a serious couple, and Sam counters that she will bring Leo as well. Sugar debates whether he should meet his online girlfriend in person, with Josh advising him that a “connection” is important. Lily decides to hand out condom “balloons” in a pretend promotion for the pop song, but Miss Glass sees through the ruse and gives them both secluded detention in her office. While there, they bemoan their perpetually single statuses and begin to wonder if they should lose their virginity to one another. At a tennis lesson, Leo mentions that he lost his own virginity on the court itself in an idyllic scene and Sam, desperate, fakes an injury and tricks him into accompanying her to the dinner. While there, she dresses attractively and tries to entice him, but Brooke interrogates them about their “relationship” and their age difference, much to the discomfort of Josh and their parents. Jane worries about Sam being with an older man, seeing traces of her own past in her daughter’s actions. Elsewhere, Sugar makes plans to rendezvous with his mystery girl, and Harrison checks into the same hotel to await Lily. Brooke decides that she and Harrison need “true intimacy” to cement their relationship, and they rent a private room as well. She tells him that they need to be their genuine selves with one another, but he falls asleep as soon as they consummate their relationship. Sugar’s date turns out to be Carmen, who leaves in embarrassment when she sees Sugar. And despite Harrison’s attempts to sweetly woo Lily, she decides not to go through with it, worried about damaging their friendship, and his feelings are clearly hurt.

On the tennis court, Leo admits that his first sexual experience was actually quite unpleasant because he did not have a meaningful connection with the person, and tells Sam that they cannot be together just now because of their age difference. At school, Carmen confesses the truth to Sugar, and though he is at first hurt by her rejection, they agree to remain friends. Lily tries to make peace with a still-stung Harrison, and Brooke decides to break up with Josh, which devastates him, saying that he never felt that close to anyone else before. Brooke and Sam meet up in the girls’ bathroom and admit that they both lost the bet, and Brooke tells Sam that she was smart to wait, as her “first time” should be special. The next meeting of Knees Together proves very crowded, as everyone seems to have learned a lesson. Commercials deleted.
