MY FAVORITE MARTIAN: EL SENOR FROM MARS (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a Martian stranded on earth living with a newspaper reporter.
The Martian sees a story in the newspaper about a man in Mexico who unearthed an ancient Aztec chest. He immediately wants to go there to prevent the chest from being opened; it contains a tablet bearing his likeness from his visit to Montezuma’s court centuries ago. Tim decides to tag along to prevent the Martian from getting into trouble under the pretense of writing a follow-up story.
They arrive in the small Mexican town where the chest was found and find out the chest is being kept in the police chief’s office. The people of the town hope to discover a statue of an ancient bird deity inside the chest. While Tim interviews the police chief, the Martian locates the chest. They discover that the police chief has been ordered to guard the chest day and night. They try to catch him at the local restaurant, but he returns before they can act. The Martian’s antennae unfurl and will not retract for some reason; he and Tim hastily retreat before anyone notices.
The Martian reveals that he has come down with a case of “Martian pepperitis” from eating too many chili peppers. The only cure is vanadium tetraphosphite, which he has in good supply back home, but he wants to snatch the tablet first. In the meantime they disguise his antennae with a sombrero. The Martian creates a distraction and takes the tablet away from the chest. He turns invisible, but his antennae stay visible, leaving Tim to hastily construct an alibi for the police chief before retreating.
The Martian shatters the tablet and Tim informs him that his antennae were visible in the police chief’s office. According to the Martian, this means his pepperitis has reached a critical stage: soon he will turn permanently invisible. The town opens the chest and finds the bird-god statue within. The Martian reveals that it is composed almost entirely of vanadium tetraphosphite. He and Tim snatch the statue and use it to cure the Martian’s pepperitis. Feeling guilty about giving the police chief so much trouble, the Martian returns the statue. The last minute of the tape is cut off. Commercials deleted.
