AMEN: ROLLY'S WEDDING (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy television series about a dishonest church deacon and his relatives and friends.
Rolly and Leola’s wedding approaches, much to everyone’s excitement. Deacon Frye surprises everyone by announcing that he intends to pay for the entire wedding himself as a gift to Rolly and Leola. However, it quickly becomes apparent that Deacon Frye intends to do things as cheaply as possible, foregoing things such as paying for a reception or food. However, he is strong-armed into paying for a lavish ceremony, much to his frustration. At home, Thelma upbraids her father for trying to get out of spending on the wedding. She forces him to act happy and excited around Leola regardless of the ever-mounting bills for the wedding. The day of the wedding finally arrives, and Deacon Frye encounters Rolly, who says he has changed his mind and had no intention of marrying Leola. He and Thelma demand to know the reason why, but they keep being interrupted before Rolly can explain. Finally he says that he overheard Leola talking about him on the phone, saying “terrible things” about him. He insists that they are “too terrible” to repeat aloud, despite everyone else believing that there must have been some sort of misunderstanding.
Deacon Frye speaks to Rolly alone, and gets Rolly to finally relate to him what Leola said. Deacon Frye attempts to convince Rolly to marry her anyway, and gets Thelma to bring Leola back there to talk to Rolly. Rolly accuses her of insulting him, but Leola explains that he did not hear her entire conversation, and that she followed her seeming insults with comments attesting to her love for Rolly and appreciation for his inner qualities. Rolly decides to resume the wedding after all, and they walk down the aisle. Reverend Gregory conducts the ceremony, and Rolly and Leola exchange their own vows. Commercials deleted.
