OZ: BLIZZARD OF '01 (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas set in the Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary, nicknamed "Oz."

In this episode, as a blizzard descends upon Oz, Cyril begins to "de-age" as the experimental pill wears off, but Nathan then learns that she has been named as a co-defendant in a suit brought by the family of Fred Wick, the inmate who died during the medical trial. Ryan is shocked when Suzanne Fitzgerald visits him and announces that she is his biological mother. Howell, deciding that "the thrill is gone" with Ryan, sets her sights on Cyril, who panics and attacks her. The boys' father, Seamus, confirms Suzanne's claims; Ryan then begs Nathan to not only find Suzanne but ensure that Cyril will not be transferred to a mental institute, thus separating the brothers forever. Hughes' mother is alarmed when he angrily hints that he is "planning something," and Glynn advises Basil to finally call his wife and allow her to visit him in prison.

On the eve of Busalis' nuptials to Norma, Rebadow happily announces that he has arranged for the newlyweds to have a forbidden conjugal visit – but Busalis asks for pointers, admitting that he is a virgin. Norma fails to arrive for the ceremony, possibly because of the heavy snow, and when Samuel Gougeon decides to convert to Catholicism, Reverend Cloutier suggests that Father Mukada is "keeping tally" of who saves more souls. Both Mukada and Cloutier are outraged when Kirk pays Robson to "punish" Gougeon with a fierce beating; when Said advises Mukada to both "lead and follow," he makes amends with Cloutier and holds an ecumenical service for all faiths. Schillinger reluctantly tells Carrie that Hank has been found dead, and her distress causes her to go into immediate labor, prompting Nathan to help deliver her baby in the prison. U.S. Marine Colonel Edward Galson arrives at Oz, having been sentenced for raping a fellow officer; though he assures cellmate Beecher that he will easily adapt to prison life, he refuses to admit to his alcoholism when Sister Pete tries to question him.

Attorney Katherine McClain tells Beecher that he may have a shot at parole after all, given the extenuating circumstances of his life at Oz, but he seemingly ruins his chances when he gets into a fight with the homophobic Galson and ends up in the cage. Vahue, still denying his crime, begs Burr for more acute drugs, though he soon wonders if he can still "make something of himself" despite destroying his athletic career. Tug arrives back at Oz, and Burr immediately tasks his lieutenants with killing Supreme Allah, Pancamo and Morales. Hill, however, worried about the fallout of a prison "war" and feeling that former mentor Burr is at least partially to blame for his own incarceration, seeks Said's advice; he then tells Officer Murphy about the plots, thus preventing the three murders and triggering a lockdown. Deyell learns that he may truly face the death penalty after all, and he is impressed when Giles delays his own execution by requesting to be stoned to death, prompting several legal disputes about the archaic method. Deyell requests to donate his organs upon dying and asks Said to help him meet the recipients. Tidd, now Salah Yudin, informs an angry Robson that he has changed his mind about killing Said. He makes a full confession to Said, who forgives him and admits that he, too, has struggled with Adebisi's death. Said is devastated when Jenkins, acting on Robson's orders, attacks him and ends up killing Yudin when he jumps forward to save his mentor's life.
