LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: OH, HEAR THE ANGELS' VOICES (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne is pleased to show her diminutive Christmas tree to those gathered at Frank's pizza parlor. While Lenny and Squiggy dismiss it as more of a "Christmas bush," Carmine comes in and takes over, asking the gang to take part in a Christmas Eve talent show. They agree upon hearing that it's for the patients at a hospital.

The next day at the hospital, Laverne and Shirley are taken aback to find out that the facility houses psychiatric patients. Shirley tries to quit on the spot after being introduced to Mr. Pulper, who assumes the identity of a doctor before morphing into a chef, nurse, and others. The hospital's administrator, Dr. Grayson, assures her that Mr. Pulper is harmless. The show then gets underway, starting with emcee Frank introducing Edna, who sings a vaudevillian ditty while accompanying herself on the ukulele. Meanwhile, Laverne flirts with a patient while Shirley fights paranoia as a young woman won't stop staring at her. Next, Lenny and Squiggy, dressed in Dickensian clothes, sing a comical number, "The Jolliest Fat Man." Carmine follows up by singing "Jingle Bell Rock," then tap dancing and performing gymnastics to the crowd's amazement.

As the show winds down, Laverne and Shirley, dressed as elves, sing "Winter Wonderland," then tap dance while twirling batons. Afterward, Mr. Pulper takes center stage to express thanks to the performers for having brightened up the patients' lives on what is traditionally a lonely night at the hospital. Finally, everyone gathers around the Christmas tree to joyfully sing "Silent Night." Includes commercials.
