LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: DEAR FUTURE MODEL (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Lenny and Squiggy are thrilled by the appearance of a “bowling queen” at the the Pizza Bowl. After Laverne and Shirley stop by, they learn that a model makes $60 an hour and thus decide to do take a modeling course by mail. They order a kit which they think will provide them with “instant glamour.” Upon the package’s arrival, Shirley concedes to send in a sample of Laverne’s hair – rather than her own -- for analysis. Later, Shirley uses a unique method to burn off her excess fat: wearing a diving suit in the apartment to replicate a sauna suit’s effects. Shirley then decides to make Laverne’s “sauna suit” by encasing her in saran wrap.

Soon, Carmine and his pal Lucille drop by and set up Laverne and Shirley with their first “assignment” -- modeling examples of Lucille’s lingerie products for the benefit of Rosie and her rich friends. By the next day, the gals have a little pocket money and Rosie’s buddies even admit that they were “great” models. Shirley thinks they may each have a future as a legitimate clotheshorse. The girls then get gussied up and head to a professional modeling agency, where they are virtually ignored. After all applicants for a job are chosen except Laverne and Shirley, the pair is devastated. When Shirley’s depression continues upon arriving home, Laverne is forced to buoy her spirits. Includes commercials.
