LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: THE GHOST STORY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne heads off on an unusual mountain-climbing-themed singles' weekend, and Carmine and Rhonda are frightened by several spooky incidents at the apartment, including flickering lights and floating objects. Squiggy's date with aspiring actress Marianne Vimvoli is interrupted by more supernatural disturbances, though Squiggy is unable to see the mischievous ghost as he continues moving furniture and closing doors to scare him. Laverne comes home to find her friends in a state of panic, and she is skeptical about the haunting – until her own items begin floating through the air.

Rhonda conducts a séance to contact the spirit, and the ghost suddenly inhabits Laverne's body and – after a beer and a kiss with Rhonda – explains that he was unfairly denied a gold medal at the 1932 Olympics by a judge that lived in the apartment. He says that he cannot rest until the wrong is righted. Determined to get the ghost out of Laverne's body and out of their lives, Frank acts as referee as "Swedish" athlete Rhonda and "Hungarian" competitor Carmine join her in a makeshift obstacle course arranged around the apartment. Laverne "wins" and receives an honorary gold medal and the ghost finally departs, satisfied. Later, however, he reappears at Frank's diner, admitting that he missed the last "bus" to heaven and needs a job, though his presence does not go over well with customers. Commercials deleted.
