LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: DO THE CARMINE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.
In this episode, Carmine and Squiggy notice Bobby Bitts, “The King of the Hits,” and try to pitch him on Carmine’s new record. Carmine performs “Do the Hotfoot, ” with all emphasis on his signature white socks and black loafers, and Bobby is so impressed he actually wants him to perform on his show “American Dance Party” on the following Saturday. Carmine rushes to tell Laverne the news, but she’s preparing for Saturday’s “Garbage Protest Day,” during which she’ll lobby against the installation of a garbage dump in the neighborhood. On Saturday night, Bobby suggests that the tune be modified to “Do the Carmine,” which then has its world premiere.
The performance proves a success and Carmine soon is getting fan mail. Later, Squiggy shows Carmine some of his merchandising ideas. The next week, Carmine again appears on “American Dance Party” to perform “the song that’s sweeping the nation.” However, Dr. Ezekiel Knibble interrupts the performance, claiming the dance craze is morally corrupt propaganda. Dr. Knibble claims there’s hidden messages in the song and wants it discontinued lest his group boycott the show. Bobby caves in and says they’ll no longer play the record. Back at the apartment, Carmine is distraught until Laverne gives him some words of wisdom. Commercials deleted.
