LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: PLAYING THE ROXY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.
In this episode, a horrified Shirley listens as Laverne reads aloud the exploits of stripper Roxy LaToure from Confession magazine. Laverne then offers to get the mail, though she's only wearing a slip. Clad in pajamas and a coat, Shirley goes instead, but falls down the stairs and hits her head upon returning. Lenny and Squiggy are sent for a doctor by Laverne. Meanwhile, Shirley regains consciousness but now thinks that she's Roxy LaToure.
The doctor tells Laverne, Lenny, and Squiggy that Shirley is in a fugue state and will eventually remember her true identity when something jogs her memory. Carmine is upset when Shirley doesn't appear to know him, and Laverne is no more successful at making Shirley remember her past. Instead, "Roxy" simply wants to concentrate on perfecting her "bump and grind" routine.
The next day, Lenny and Squiggy -- having recently become members of the Bass Lodge -- take advantage of the situation by luring "Roxy" to their new club to perform. When Laverne subsequently finds a note explaining her roommate's whereabouts, she rushes to the club. Upon arriving, Laverne storms the stage and gets her dress torn off in the process. The sight of Laverne in her slip jars Shirley's memory and she runs behind the curtain in shame. Back in their apartment, Laverne tells Shirley that she's happy about the personality turnaround, but thinks Roxy would have been more fun on double-dates. Includes commercials.
