LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: THE GYMNAST SHOW (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.
In this episode, Rhonda introduces Laverne to former trapeze artist Edgar Garibaldi. Rhonda then suggests that the two go on a date. Intrigued by Edgar’s tales of the circus, Laverne agrees and the two immediately hit if off – even though he keeps calling her Louise and says he reminds her of someone. Soon, Laverne tells Frank that she’s going to Edgar’s mountain retreat for a weekend so that he can teach her to work with him on the trapeze. Edgar tells Frank that Laverne has inspired him to get back into circus work. Regardless, Frank doesn’t think Laverne should go away with Edgar. That night, Rhonda tells Laverne about Edgar’s romantic past, detailing how his former partner Louise deserted him and he threatened to kill Louise if he ever found her. At Edgar’s home, Laverne starts to worry that Edgar will kill her, mistaking her for doppelganger Louise.
Laverne then thinks butler Arthur may have been killed by Edgar for not following his master’s orders. As Laverne prepares for bed, Edgar says the phone is dead and locks her in her room. When Edgar brings her “a midnight snack,” Laverne wonders if he’s trying to poison her. When they start training, Laverne takes the opportunity to knock out Edgar. Later, following Arthur’s reappearance, Laverne confronts Edgar about her resemblance to Louise and learns that all her suspicions contributed to a big misunderstanding. Finally, Rhonda stops by Cowboy Bill’s to set up an excited Frank with a circus performer. However, his ardor disappears when he meets his date: the bearded lady. Commercials deleted.
