NEWHART: THANKSGIVING FOR THE MEMORIES (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about Dick and Joanna Loudon, who run a country inn in Vermont.
In this episode, Bob excitedly prepares for Thanksgiving, eager to carve the turkey with his state-of-the-art knives. George, however, reveals that the inn requires extensive electric work that he himself cannot complete. Larry and the Darryls stop by to invite everyone to their holiday dinner, though Bob hurriedly turns them down, uncertain about their oddball practices. The electrician explains that they will have to shut off the power for a few days to work on the wiring, and Bob is forced to accept Stephanie's invitation to spend the holiday at her parents' extravagant mansion. He "pouts" at the start of the evening, but soon changes his mind after playing a round of indoor golf and enjoying the football game on the Vanderkellens' enormous television; he eventually declares that it might just be the "best Thanksgiving ever." Stephanie, however, is outraged to learn that her parents have given away her beloved "Petey Rabbit" stuffed animal. Bob, Joanna and Michael are forced to depart when she storms out in anger.
Back at the inn, they discover that they have no food, heat or lights, but Bob attempts to "make the best of it" and prepares to use his beloved knives on a piece of cheese. Larry and the Darryls then return and reiterate their offer; the stranded celebrants are left with no other choice but to accompany them back to the Minuteman Café. Everyone is understandably nervous about the food, though their dinner items seem surprisingly normal, and Arthur and Marian soon arrive with Petey Rabbit – or rather a brand-new, hastily assembled Petey. Stephanie is touched by the gesture, and Arthur and Marian agree to join the others for a uniquely backwoods Thanksgiving. Everyone is taken aback by the brothers' "secret ingredient," though Arthur seems to enjoy the dish all the same. Commercials deleted.
