NEWHART: ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies about Dick and Joanna Loudon, who run a country inn in Vermont.

In this episode, Dick is pleased when he is asked to be the commencement speaker at Brookfield Academy's upcoming graduation ceremony. However, when it turns out to fall on the same evening as Larry and the Darryl's long-planned dinner party, Michael jumps in and offers to save Joanna from attending the sure-to-be-bizarre event by herself. Larry confesses that he is desperate for insightful conversation from his guests, as his brothers are not "deep thinkers." Stephanie, still smarting from her breakup with Michael, is resentful at being left alone and dateless on a Saturday night.

Joanna and Michael ultimately head to Larry and the Darryls' rustic home and are served some unusual "cocktails." Elsewhere, Dick is dismayed to learn that Brookfield Academy is a preschool, not a high school. Stephanie drowns her sorrows with George and grows increasingly angry at Michael for ending their relationship. After the largely indefinable meal, Michael and Joanna are surprised to find that they are insufficiently intellectual for Larry's taste, and all the more shocked when the Darryls provide them with an elegant "musical interlude." Back at the school, Dick hastily adjusts his speech to accommodate the much younger graduates, and he dutifully joins in as the pupils sing the familiar "school song." Commercials deleted.
