BEVERLY HILLS, 90210: B.Y.O.B. (TV)
Summary
One in this series of programs about a group of teenagers who attend school in the glamorous, affluent community of Beverly Hills. In this episode, Donna announces her plans to have an “A-list” party at her home while her parents are out of town. Dylan seems uninterested, although he makes plans for a date with Brenda later. Brandon too is not into it, but Brenda persuades him to come along. At the same time, their own parents announce their plans to attend a retreat in Palm Springs and leave them home alone. At the party, Steve prepares drinks, but Brandon declines, causing him to be a labeled a “buzz-crusher.” Brenda encourages him to “loosen up,” and Steve secretly spikes his drink. When he realizes what has happened, Brandon is angry, but eventually gives in and continues drinking. Brenda spots Kelly and Steve reuniting and heading upstairs. When they return home, Cindy smells alcohol on Brenda’s breath, and she and Jim address the two of them in the morning, believing only Brenda was drinking because she is more “impressionable” than Brandon, and sternly warns her not to do so again. Brenda tells Brandon he owes her one for covering for him. At school, Kelly expresses regret over her liaison with Steve, and when Brenda mentions that her parents are going away, Donna encourages her to have a party of her own. Brenda agrees and works to convince Brandon, eventually reminding him that she did him a favor, and he gives in. In Palm Springs, Jim and Cindy must then deal with an annoyingly overfriendly couple staying in the next hotel room. Brenda convinces Dylan to stop by her party, and when Andrea invites Brandon out for the night, he tells her of the event and encourages her to come by as well. The party turns out to have far too many guests, including David and Scott. Brenda chides Kelly for drinking again and says she and Brandon have a pact to stay sober, but they soon spot Brandon imbibing. Brenda fields a phone call from her mother and manages to convince her that everything is fine, but the cops soon arrive, having received complaints of loud music. Dylan covers for Brenda and the cops leave, and Dylan then goes to Brandon and suggests that he has had enough. Kelly, trying to avoid Steve, agrees to dance with a delighted David. While dancing, Brandon impulsively kisses Angela, which bothers her, as he is drunk. Brandon and Steve then plan to make a run to the store for more booze and snacks, but on the way, Brandon is involved in a car accident. Brenda calls their parents and tells them that he has been arrested for drunk driving. They come back to Beverly Hills and pick him up, growing angrier when they learn about the party and saying they can no longer trust the twins. Brandon claims his drink was spiked without his knowledge, like at Donna’s party, and Brenda is angry at his lie. At school, Brandon apologizes to Andrea, and Kelly checks in to see how harshly Brenda has been punished. Dylan talks to Brandon, who voices his regret and says that jail is “indescribable.” Dylan then takes him to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and reveals his own struggles with drinking. Brandon returns home and talks to his father, admitting his worries about his new habit, and his father consoles him. Commercials deleted.
