INVADERS, THE: THE LIFE SEEKERS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of science fiction programs about architect David Vincent's attempts to stop space aliens from taking over the world. The episode opens as Joe Nash, a police officer, pulls over a speeding car on the highway. The driver and passengers are all aliens, and a shootout ensues. One of the aliens is killed, but the other two get away as Joe lies in the street bleeding. David is on the scene soon thereafter, as are the police. He asks Joe some questions at the hospital, but Joe thinks that David's claims about aliens are nonsense and the police captain, Bill Battersea, asks him to leave. Battersea is very close to Joe, as he raised him after his parents died. Battersea assures Joe that the police will find the ones who shot him. One of the aliens who got away, Claire, calls David in an attempt to lure him to their location. Jim Trent and Lieutenant Rawlings, a pair of men from the state police, arrive at the police station to assist Captain Battersea. Claire leads David to a farm where she and the other alien, Keith, are hiding out. Keith claims that he and Claire are fugitives from their alien brethren, cast out because of their opposition to the invasion. The other aliens will soon be upon them and they need David's help. They have planned to rendezvous with a ship to take them back to their home planet so that he can deliver a "memory bank" filled with information on humans that he believes will change his race's opinion of humanity. Furthermore, he claims that if he and Claire were captured by earth authorities, it would force the aliens to attack. A pair of aliens attempt to kill Keith and Claire, but are stopped by David. He tentatively agrees to help them. Keith gives David the memory bank for safekeeping. David proposes helping Keith and Claire make the rendezvous with their allied ship, despite the immense risk and Claire's mistrust of him. He calls Edgar for support. Next, David lures Battersea into the farm, where he is held at gunpoint and Claire uses a device that will erase his memory of what they are about to do. David uses Battersea to sneak Claire and Keith past the police checkpoints into another town. However, Battersea fights back and in the process breaks Claire's device, necessitating that he be taken with them. Meanwhile, Edgar tries to get Trent to call off the search for Keith and Claire. Once he leaves, Trent orders Rawlings to follow Edgar. Claire's opinion of David begins to soften. Claire reveals that Battersea dismissed warnings of aliens in his town, and as a result a family was burned to death. She believes that were he to admit the existence of the aliens, his guilt for not saving the people burned would be too much for him. Battersea tries to get David to kill Keith and Claire, but to no avail. In private, Joe reveals that he knows about the aliens himself, but it turns out that Trent is an alien and he kills Joe. David asks Edgar to bring a car for him. Claire sits down to talk with David, revealing that some aliens feel emotions much in the same way humans do. They share a kiss. Rawlings is ordered by Trent to pull Edgar over. Battersea hears on the radio that Joe has died and escapes his gag in order to place a call revealing his position to the police. The next morning, David, Battersea, Keith, and Claire attempt to make it to the rendezvous point, but are stopped by a police roadblock. They are chased by aliens disguised as police officers on foot, and a shocked Battersea is forced to fend them off. The alien ship arrives to take Keith and Claire away. The episode ends as David drives off with Battersea, his new ally. Commercials deleted.
