PHILLY: PORN AGAIN (TV)

Summary

One in this legal drama series about Philadelphia-based defense attorney Kathleen Maguire. In this episode, Kathleen attempts to get Patrick ready for school and is surprised by a visit from her client Irene, who explains that her abusive husband, whom she has been charged with stabbing, is harassing her. Kathleen takes Patrick to school and notices that she is being followed and, distracted, ends up rear-ending another car. When the cops arrive, they arrest the other driver, Bernie, on an outstanding bench warrant, and Kathleen offers him her services. She then tells Terry that she has taken Anthony Cole's case, adding that the main witness against him is not trustworthy, though Terry remains convinced of his guilt. Things go immediately downhill in court when Judge Armstrong's dog attacks another lawyer, Charlie, causing him to have a heart attack. Will receives Bernie's case, and is surprised to learn that he is "the tri-state king of kiddie porn." Kathleen finds that Shayna has been arrested again for a separate assault charge, but Shayna reveals that she still has the knife that Jerome used to kill Darryl and is willing to turn on him in exchange for a deal.

Will visits Bernie and informs him that his car's damaged trunk popped open at the impound lot and revealed a vast quantity of child porn. Learning that his lawyer was in fact heart attack-victim Charlie, Will offers to be his new representation, aware that he will require a lot of repeat business." Kathleen catches the same car following her and takes photos of the license plate, which she sends to Clyde for investigation. She then tells Terry about Shayna's evidence against Jerome, explaining that they can clear Anthony if they make a deal with her, but Terry points out that he will have a very hard time proving Jerome's guilt in the murder. Dan refuses the deal, doubtful that Shayna really has the evidence, even when Kathleen declares that Jerome openly confessed to her. She then heads back to Judge Hawes' court and requests a "stay-away" order for Irene, asserting that her husband is dangerous, though Hawes rudely points out that it was she who stabbed him and makes the order mutual. Will tells Kathleen about Bernie, sure that he landed the high-profile case by "fate," but Kathleen flatly refuses to represent him when she learns about the child porn. Angry, Will heads to the impound lot and examines the photos of Bernie's damaged car.

Kathleen urges Irene to press charges against her husband, and Clyde reveals that her "stalker" is actually an ex-cop now working for the D.A. Furious, she accuses Dan of having her followed, and he argues that she has allowed "dangerous" clients like Irene near their son. They argue anew about Jerome's case, with Dan pointing out that they cannot make a strong murder case against him, but is finally forced to agree to the deal. Shayna and Anthony are both thrilled that their charges have been dropped, though Jerome is angry that Kathleen "blew his alibi" and threatens to hurt her if he is successfully charged with Darryl's murder. Will discovers that Bernie's trunk was in fact closed and undamaged upon arriving at the impound lot, meaning that the evidence was obtained illegally and is therefore inadmissible, and he later accuses Kathleen of hypocrisy in choosing which clients to represent. Irene then calls her in a panic and Kathleen rushes to her home, but finds both Irene and her husband dead in a murder-suicide. Deeply saddened, she heads home and her mother, who is watching Patrick, again voices her disapproval of Kathleen's career choice. Patrick too notes his resentment of his mother's long hours and frequent absences, but is subdued when she tells him the truth about Irene's death. Includes commercials and promos.
