HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: A STORM IN SUMMER (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramatic specials presented by Hallmark. In this drama, Peter Ustinov plays a Jewish deli owner, Shaddock, who is forced to entertain Washington, a black boy from Harlem, as part of the "fresh air vacation plan." Shaddock's nephew Stanley had planned to sponsor the child but had to go out of town unexpectedly. Neither Shaddock nor Washington is happy with the situation, but Shaddock is Washington's only hope for a summer outdoors. Shaddock has been angry at the world for twenty-five years because of the death of his son in World War II and Washington is bitter because his brother is fighting in the war in Vietnam. The two learn that they have similar problems, including discrimination, and Washington manages to soften Shaddock's hardened heart, but he must return home after receiving terrible news. Includes commercials and promos.
("Hallmark Hall of Fame" aired on NBC from 1952 to 1978; network affiliation varies after 1978.)
