QUEER AS FOLK {U.S. VERSION}: A CHANGE OF HEART (TV)

Summary

One in this series about the day-to-day lives of a circle of gay and lesbian friends living in Pittsburgh.

In this episode, Brian dismissively downplays Kip's sexual harassment lawsuit against him, though his boss advises him to get a lawyer; Emmett, still trying to "go straight" after his HIV scare, lands a date with a fellow "See the Light" member, Heather. An exasperated David reminds Michael that there is "no room" for Brian within their relationship. Melanie somewhat reluctantly agrees to represent Brian, guessing that his infamous promiscuity could actually work in his favor. Justin hears the news and frets about how best to help Brian, though Debbie and Vic point out that Brian's reckless behavior was always likely to land him in trouble. Kip visits Brian and offers to drop the suit in exchange for the promotion he desires, but Brian angrily rejects him again. Ted and Melanie run into Emmett and Heather on their "date," and though Melanie reacts with disgust to the idea of conversion therapy, Emmett invites them both to join their See the Light meetings.

Michael lies to David and claims that he must spend the evening with an ill Debbie, but instead heads to Brian's for an evening of junk food and, eventually, a jam session at Woody's. David, however, quickly discovers Michael's fib. In the morning, Justin tends to a hungover Brian as Melanie tries to prepare his defense; when Lindsay stops by with Gus, Brian surprises her by suggesting that she should reunite with the cheating Melanie. Learning that Lindsay intends to return to work, Brian ignores his perilous career situation and offers to pay for a full-time babysitter. David confronts Michael about his lie, declaring that they will need to "rethink things," and Debbie scolds her son as Ted admits that he is not ready to give up on his best friend. Brian visits David at work, coldly informing him that he will lose Michael if he tries to control his life and his friendships. Emmett and Heather desperately turn to not-so-straight individual fantasies as they attempt to become a See the Light "success story" by becoming intimate.

Justin tracks down Kip and, pretending to also have a grudge against notorious heartbreaker Brian, easily seduces him. He then reveals that he is only seventeen, however, and suggests that he will get Kip into legal peril if he doesn't do a certain favor. At the office, Brian and Melanie are astonished to learn that the lawsuit has been abruptly dropped. Ted and Michael visit Emmett at a See the Light meeting, with Ted sincerely telling his friend that he will always love him no matter what, adding that if God does not make mistakes, then Emmett must already be "exactly who He wants him to be." David, clearly affected by Brian's warning, assures Michael that he will not interfere in his friendships; Michael decides to spend the night at home with David rather than at Babylon. At the nightclub, Justin opts not to reveal his trick to a jubilant Brian, and Ted is thrilled when Emmett returns – with Heather in tow – having changed his mind about "converting" and preferring to embrace his authentic, flamboyant self.
