CHEERS: AND GOD CREATED WOODMAN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar. In this episode, Carla fakes labor in order to attend a basketball game, determined to support her beloved Celtics. Rebecca is excited when she is asked to organize a cocktail party for Daniel Collier, the Chief Organizing Officer of the Lillian Corporation. Cliff announces that he has a new side business selling shoes, and Woody, offended by the suggestion that he and Sam are "nincompoops," convinces a reluctant Rebecca to let them bartend the cocktail party. At the party, Sam is distracted by an attractive guest, as usual, and attempts to convince her that he is really an "eccentric millionaire" masquerading as a servant. Rebecca panics when she accidentally smashes an expensive antique vase belonging to Collier, sure that she has destroyed her career at Lillian. Woody takes the blame for her, though, and Rebecca is taken aback when Collier praises his "courage" and invites him to join the party.

Sam accuses the woman of being "incredibly shallow" when she rejects him, but then admits that he shares that particular trait and suggests that they would make a good match. Rebecca is annoyed as Woody strikes up a lively friendship with Collier and finally confesses the truth about the vase. Collier is angry at her deception, but Woody vouches for her and he decides to give Rebecca another chance. Later, at Cheers, Cliff delivers his friends' shoe orders, and they are all pleased with their comfort until they discover that they are rather noisier than expected. Collier arrives at the bar and confronts Rebecca about the broken vase, admitting that he drank heavily at the party and cannot remember most of the night. Seeing a way out, Rebecca pleads ignorance, and Collier is offended at Woody's jovial greeting, having also forgotten about his new friend. Sam decides to take the blame for the vase in order to protect Rebecca, but the plan backfires again when Collier compliments Sam's "grit" in telling the truth. Commercials deleted.
