CHEERS: MA ALWAYS LIKED YOU BEST (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar. In this episode, Norm and Woody explore the ancient art of Tarot cards—to play Go Fish. Rebecca is annoyed at the loud construction work going on at the bar’s entrance, saying it is driving away business, but they are all too lazy to go investigate the work. When Frasier berates them and heads outside, he falls into the hole, to the amusement of the others. Sam tries to “grease” the construction workers to go faster, but Rebecca disapproves. Cliff reveals that his mother is coming to town, but says he won’t let her move in with him, as he knows she wants. They soon realize that the construction has slowed down and Sam wants to bribe them, but Rebecca decides to just create another entrance, advised by Norm. Cliff’s mother arrives and admits she lost a lot of money on dog races, hinting that she wants to move in with Cliff, but he stands his ground, despite her guilt trips. Woody offers to let her to stay with him, and she seems charmed by him. Rebecca’s attempts at a new door allow all manner of wildlife into the bar. Cliff notices his mother’s affectionate behavior towards Woody and becomes jealous, especially when she teaches him her beloved “bird trivia” and plans a movie night. He tries to tell her off and brags about how he made a “clean cut” of their relationship, but no one is convinced. Norm attempts to remove bars from a back window for the new entrance, but ends up getting stuck, causing the others to gleefully compare him to Winnie-the-Pooh in the tree. Eventually, Rebecca calls the cops, claiming there is a “child” stuck in a fence. Mrs. Clavin and Woody return from a shopping trip and Cliff confronts him, saying he misses his mother, but Woody begs him to “share.” An exasperated Frasier tries to intervene, and Mrs. Clavin says that she wants to avoid a “Cain and Abel situation” and has love for them both in different ways. When the cops learn that Rebecca is trying to build a new door on the bar, they ask to see her permit, so she finally attempts Sam’s bribing technique and is hauled off to jail, leaving Norm still stuck in the window.
