JUDY GARLAND SHOW, THE {LIZA MINNELLI} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of music/variety programs starring Judy Garland. In this program, Garland is joined by her 18-year-old daughter, Liza Minnelli, comedian Soupy Sales, and cast member Jerry Van Dyke. Garland begins the show by singing “Liza (the Clouds’ll Roll Away).” After Minnelli joins her mother on stage, Van Dyke gives Garland advice about balancing a career with being a mother. Garland then sings "Come Rain or Shine." Next, Garland and Minnelli sing “Together Wherever We Go.” Left to her own devices, Minnelli sings “Put on a Happy Face,” then joins a dance troupe’s interpretation of the tune. Afterward, Van Dyke “smuggles” Sales onto the set so that he can meet Garland. Sales then sings “I’m Calm,” with some help from Van Dyke. Next, Garland and Minnelli sing "We Could Make Such Beautiful Music Together," followed by "The Best Is Yet to Come." They then sing and dance to "Bye Bye Baby." After more banter, the pair sings "Bob White (Won't Ya Come Swing Tonight). Later, Minnelli sings “You Are for Loving.” A comic bit follows in which Sales finally gets to meet Garland while he helps her with a wardrobe change. Van Dyke then introduces musicians The Brothers Castro, who perform "Malagueno" and "You Make Me Feel So Young." Garland then sings “As Long as He Needs Me.” While getting made up as a bum for the show’s finale, Minnelli sings “Let Me Entertain You.” She is then joined by Garland – in a matching hobo outfit – and the pair collaborate on a skit while singing “Two Lost Souls,” then segue into “I Will Come Back.” Includes commercials.
