BECKER: ALL THE RAGE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a gruff neighborhood doctor working in the Bronx.

Bob’s mother throws him out of her retirement home, rendering him homeless. He complains to Jake and Reggie about it and asks to move in with one of them, but they steadfastly refuse. Becker yells at a pair of men in the diner about their improper parking job, even hassling them after they reveal they are policemen. The policemen arrest him after he insults them too much, and he is sentenced to take anger management classes. Linda takes pity on Bob and offers to let him stay at her apartment for a while. Becker attends his first anger management class; neither he nor the other attendees are at all enthused with their instructor, Richard Wilson, who insists that they can “have fun” while there. While introducing himself, Becker tells a version of the events which brought him here which paint himself as an innocent victim of police brutality.

Bob arrives at Linda’s nice apartment, which she reveals actually belongs to her parents, and he expresses his gratitude. Becker expresses his distaste for the anger management classes, insisting that the behavioral modification techniques he’s learning are ineffective. However, his anger problem becomes more apparent when he finds himself berating a disabled man. Linda starts to feel as though Bob is taking advantage of her generosity, but doesn’t want to kick him out. Becker, unnerved from his encounter with the disabled man, attempts to utilize what he’s learned in his classes and speaks to Margaret, Linda, and Jake as his “support network,” but quickly reneges on his attempt. Linda confronts Bob, as he’s making her feel uncomfortable with his lifestyle and she wants him to leave. Bob understands her actions, but he guilt-trips her into allowing him to stay, albeit with stricter rules about respecting her privacy and property.

Becker arrives late for his final anger management class, and is upset that there are not enough chairs for him to sit down. Soon Becker becomes irritated and enraged; Richard reveals that he removed a chair on purpose as a test for Becker, and he has failed to contain his anger. He refuses to take the class again and is sentenced to community service instead. Commercials deleted.
