BECKER: CROSSTALK (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a gruff neighborhood doctor working in the Bronx.
Bob suggests that he, Jake, and Reggie experiment with online stock investments in order to make a fortune. One of Becker’s patients, Frank, could have something wrong with his blood vessels, and Becker sends him to the hospital to get an MRI. Jake, Reggie, and Bob argue about what stocks to purchase until Jake accidentally approves the purchase of stock in a company called “International Allied Industries,” whose function is unknown. Becker visits the hospital, where he is accosted by a priest for seemingly not caring about Frank’s condition. The test results come in and it is revealed that Frank has an abnormality in his blood vessels which could rupture in his brain unless he receives immediate surgery.
Bob and company find the stock price skyrocketing, prompting optimism about their investment. The priest arrives at Becker’s office to apologize for accosting him. Frank goes into surgery, although Becker is confident about his chances. Becker gets into a theological argument with the priest where he tries to justify his atheism and decries the “false hope” that religion instills in people. Becker also inadvertently reveals his own guilt when his patients die, but doesn’t wish to discuss it with the priest, who leaves. The stress of the stock market gets to Bob, and he convinces Reggie to sell their shares, leaving them with a small profit. Becker and the priest both wait for the results of the surgery in the hospital waiting room. During their awkward conversation the priest reveals that Frank is his brother and that he withheld that information in order to get an accurate assessment of Frank’s condition from Becker. Finally Becker receives word that Frank’s surgery was successful and that he is recovering. The priest, relieved, joins Becker for a cigarette. Commercials deleted.
