SOUTH PARK: CONJOINED FETUS LADY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of animated programs for adults about the town of South Park, which is populated by an oversexed school chef, a psychotic teacher, Jesus Christ, and a group of acerbic, foul-mouthed youngsters. In this episode, in gym class, Chef informs the unenthusiastic children that they will be playing dodgeball. British student Pip is uninformed about the game, and gets annoyed when the others mock him. Kyle is hit in the face and gets a bloody nose, and he is sent to see Nurse Gollum, much to his trepidation. Once there, he is horrified to discover that she has an undeveloped fetus attached to her head. He tells his friends all about the bizarre site, but Kyle’s mother scolds them for their insensitivity and explains her condition in detail, which alarms Stan and Cartman further. Mrs. Broflovski decides that she wants to educate the town about the nurse’s disorder. Elsewhere, the schoolchildren travel to Denver for the dodgeball state finals, accompanied by an eager Chef and a maniacally stressed-out bus driver. They face a tough, as-yet unbeaten team and assume they will lose, but Pip turns out to be a dodgeball prodigy when goaded into anger by the others’ teasing, and they win, meaning that they will play in the national competition in Washington D.C. Mrs. Broflovski holds an awkward dinner party for Nurse Gollum and other school staff, and despite her assurances that she is comfortable with her condition, they decide to hold a conjoined-twin awareness week.
The awareness week kicks off with a parade solely consisting of Nurse Gollum, who worries that she should instead be accompanying the children on their trip. After a perilous bus ride to D.C., the children arrive and learn that they have won by forfeit, as the other team is too frightened to play the world-champion Chinese team, who have spent their lives training to be deadly dodgeball machines. Back in South Park, the awareness week continues with an embarrassing “inspirational” film reel of Nurse Gollum, followed by an awards ceremony. On the surprisingly short drive to China, the children worry that they could be killed in the game and ask the Chinese-American Kevin for advice, but Chef reassures them. Once they arrive, they are mocked by the racist commentators and immediately begin suffering defeat at the hands of the talented players, with Kenny eventually being killed. Finally, only Pip is left, and Chef begins to question his ambition for them to win. Kevin tricks the other team into mocking Pip, and he becomes a whirlwind of dodgeball rage, taking out the entire Chinese team. He is thrilled to win the world championship, but the others have lost interest and head home. The conjoined-twin awareness week concludes and Nurse Gollum is asked to give a speech, and she reprimands the entire town for being “freaks” and says that she never wanted special treatment. Mrs. Broflovski and the other parents are offended, but the kids are won over by her candor. Commercials deleted.
